Lin Ruey-shiung (林瑞雄), Vice Presidential candidate of the People First Party (PFP), left for a four-day trip to Bhutan on Wednesday, in the hope he could bring back peace and happiness to Taiwan to ease the anxiety of voters in Taiwan over the upcoming elections.

Prior to his departure, he told the press that campaigning was useless, saying that he had told James Soong (宋楚瑜), PFP chairman and Presidential candidate, that he would not participate in the PFP’s large-scale campaign events because it was sufficient if voters had conviction. However, Lin still canvassed voters for Soong, calling on people to cast their ballots according to their conscience for someone who made them feel at ease the most. “James Soong is certainly the most competent candidate,” he vowed. Lin is expected to return to Taiwan on January 9.

Lin’s decision to go abroad in the run-up to the Presidential election is unprecedented in the country’s history. But Lin explained that he hated campaigning and campaign slogans, adding that he believed that Soong would understand his decision to take a trip to Bhutan.

When asked about his absence from the PFP’s large-scale campaign events owing to his trip to Bhutan, Lin said that his decision to go to Bhutan was very easy because campaigning should be cheerful just like his trip abroad, so nobody should be worried.
