 Ma and Wu to Stump for Hung in Show of Solidarity

Political pundit Hu Chung-hsin (胡忠信) recently claimed on a TV political talkshow that KMT Presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) had demanded the post of Legislative Speakership as a condition for her voluntary withdrawal from the 2016 Presidential Election, adding that his source was a figure within the KMT party central. 

In response, Hung retained an attorney to file criminal charges with the Taipei District Prosecutors Office against Hu for allegedly violating Article 90 of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act. 

The KMT party central two days ago issued a statement to firmly refute Hu’s remarks. According to informed sources, following KMT Chairman Eric Chu’s decision to head the Hung Hsiu-chu Campaign Headquarters, the offices of President Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President Wu Den-yih also contacted the Hung office yesterday to express support and willingness to stump for Hung. The KMT party central and the Hung office are currently organizing a large campaign rally, in which Ma, Wu, and Chu will jointly demonstrate their support for Hung. 

Yesterday, Hung noted that she respected freedom of speech, but she would never sit idly by and ignore groundless accusations intended to defame her. She stressed that she had already filed criminal charges against Clara Chou, Wen Shen, and the Next Weekly, and she would not hesitate to file additional criminal charges to stop other defamation attempts.
