July 25, 2016
According to the statistics released on July 22 by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) under the Executive Yuan, the number of the jobless in June rose to 459,000 because of the larger working population looking for jobs after the graduation season. The unemployment rate in June has arisen to 3.92 %, the highest in four months. The average unemployment rate in the first half of 2016 stood at 3.89%, the first year-on-year rise since 2009. This reveals that the labor market is still being influenced by the stagnant economy.
Among all the cities in Taiwan, the unemployment rates in Taoyuan City and Kaohsiung City both stood at 4%, the highest in Taiwan. The unemployment rates of New Taipei City and Taipei City, the two more prosperous cities in Taiwan, stood at 3.9 % and 3.8%, respectively, close to the average unemployment rate in Taiwan.
