The 11th Cross-Strait Economic, Trade and Cultural Forum (KMT-CCP Forum) will reportedly be held in Mainland China in November. According to an informed source, the meeting will not be downgraded, moreover, it is also possible that KMT Chairwoman Hung Hsiu-Chu (洪秀柱) and CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping (習近平) will meet afterwards at an appropriate venue.
According to the same source, it was currently even more important that the KMT-CCP Forum be continued so as to underscore that the new administration in Taiwan’s refusal to recognize the 1992 Consensus was the reason behind the suspension of official cross-Strait exchanges.
As this year is the sesquicentenary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s (孫中山) birth (Nov. 12, 1866), the Forum may be held in November so that Hung could pay tribute at Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum in Nanjing in person. Dr. Su Yat-sen is the founding father of the Republic of China.
According to the same source, after the KMT-CCP Forum was concluded, Hung may fly to Beijing, where she may meet with Xi Jinping.
On May 4, 2015, former KMT chairman Eric Chu met with Xi Jinping in Beijing after Chu participated in the KMT-CCP Forum in Shanghai.
According to the same source, arranging a Hung-Xi Meeting “might not be too difficult”. However, the format and agenda of the KMT-CCP Forum still needed to be hammered out, the same source noted, adding that the Forum may focus on youth issues and have a more pragmatic and limited scope.
