On March 16, the Economics Ministry convened a meeting of the Electricity Rates Review Committee, making a resolution to hike the electricity rates by 3% from NT$2.5488 to NT$2.6253 per kWh, starting April 1.

However, Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫), Economics Deputy Minister, stated that in order to take care of the welfare of households and stabilize commodity prices, households consuming less than 500 kWh per month or small businesses consuming less than 1500 kWh per month would be exempted from the power rate hikes in April. This was expected to benefit 11.29 million people, Kung concluded.
