The pension reforms for retired military, civil servants and public school teachers are scheduled to concomitantly come into effect on July 1. In a press conference held at the Presidential Palace yesterday, President Tsai Ing-wen both apologized and expressed appreciation to those affected by the pension reforms.

Tsai apologized, on behalf of the nation, to the retired military, civil servants and public school teachers as they, owing to the pension cuts, would be compelled to change or adjust their retirement plans. At the same time, Tsai also expressed her deepest appreciation to all the military, civil servants and public school teachers since they had always been the backbone of the nation and Taiwan society.

Tsai stated that concerns over pension bankruptcy would now be consigned to the dustbin of history because the financial crisis of the pension system was relieved from this moment on, adding that the younger generation of the military, civil servants, and public school teachers would thus have no worries about being unable to receive pension income after their retirement.
