Last year, the Education Ministry petitioned to the court of justice, requesting that all members of the board of the Mandarin Daily News be relieved of their duties, and requesting that the court appoint interim board members; the petition was rejected. The Education Ministry then filed an interlocutory appeal; a couple of days ago, the Taipei District Court rejected it again, but ruling that seven interim board members could sit on the board of directors.
Huang Yueh-li, director of the Department of Life Education under the Education Ministry, stated that the court did not render a substantive ruling on the data provided by the Education Ministry, hence it would file an interlocutory appeal anew on the specific point that the Mandarin Daily News was a non-profit corporation endowed by the government. The Education Ministry still held its original view that it believed the Mandarin Daily News was a non-profit corporation endowed by the government; and since the court also ruled that seven interim board members could sit on the board of directors of Mandarin Daily News, it hoped that normal operations of the Mandarin Daily News could be resumed as soon as possible so as not to affect the rights and interests of its staff and employees.
Chiang Chu-chun, board chairman and publisher of the Mandarin Daily News, stated that if the Education Ministry filed an appeal anew, he believed that justice would prevail, adding that "We were not endowed by the Education Ministry," the Education Ministry should not distort the law with illogical reasoning, hoping that the court would render an impartial ruling.
