Ko: It’s Still Possible for Me to Lose Taipei Mayoral Race

With eight days left before the nine-in-one local elections scheduled for November 24, the Taipei City mayoral race has become a tug of war, with constant speculation about whether the DPP would “jettison Pasuya Yao (姚文智), its candidate, to rescue Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), the incumbent Taipei City mayor, who is seeking re-election [just to stop the KMT’s Ting Shou-chung (丁守中), the greater foe].” Yesterday, Ko admitted candidly that “it is still possible for me to lose the race,” as the canvassing of political parties was effective. If the political parties of his opponents each poached some votes from him, he would lose the election, Ko stated.

Ting believed that the DPP was “fixing the game,” as the White and Green, i.e., Ko and the DPP, were cooperating with each other in the race. In response, Ko bluntly stated that Taiwan had been in a state of polarized rivalry for decades, so many political figures could only see Blue and Green in their eyes, hold only “conspiracy theory” views in their heads and always employ the tactic of labeling others.
