The plebiscite proposition on “using nuclear power in the meantime to nurture adequate green power” was adopted at the end of last year, but the government didn’t adjust its policy goal of a nuclear-free homeland by 2025, eliciting questioning from nuclear power supporters. In a joint press conference yesterday, the Ma Ying-jeou Cultural and Educational Foundation and the Fair Winds Foundation stated that they planned to hold a private-sector energy conference on March 10, on the eve of the 8th anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, and to invite a wide range of scholars and figures from the private sector to the conference to propose new ratios for power generation.

In addition, the two foundations added that they would not rule out the possibility of proposing a second-stage plebiscite on postponing the scheduled decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) Nos. 1, 2 and 3 and on de-mothballing and activating NPP No. 4.
