A consensus has yet to be reached among the KMT hopefuls for the presidential primary mechanism. After proposing the idea of adopting 100% party membership voting to decide KMT’s Presidential candidate, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih tossed out a new idea yesterday.
Wu stated that some party members recommended that the KMT’s Presidential candidate be decided by a combination of opinion poll results (50%) and party membership voting (50%). He opined that this idea gave consideration not only to the will of party membership but also to public opinion, so he would ask the KMT’s think tank, the National Policy Foundation, to study and deliberate on it.
In addition, Wu stated that in party membership vote, if the weight occupied 50% and a majority of all party membership cast ballots, then it would be reasonable that the winner, being the Presidential candidate, also assumed the KMT Chairmanship.
