Eric Chu: “I Will Work Hard to Make Myself Strongest Candidate”

Former New Taipei City mayor Eric Chu (朱立倫), who had announced that he would enter the KMT presidential primary, yesterday indicated that he would make every effort to make himself the strongest candidate, but should he lose in the end, he would support the party’s nominee wholeheartedly without asking for any position in the government or personal consideration, adding that his goal would not change and all he wanted was that Taiwan and the Republic of China could be better.

The above remarks were made in an interview with Apple Daily yesterday when he was asked whether he was willing to be the candidate’s running mate if the KMT primary turned out not as expected, and the party central insisted on drafting another person to enter the presidential race.

Chu emphasized that he would work hard to make himself the strongest candidate, and if he lost in the end, he hoped he himself could help the nominee gain more support, for the sake of party solidarity. He also stated that since entering the presidential race was not for pursuing personal power and position alone but to resolve issues such as Taiwan’s economic slowdown, cross-Strait confrontation, and the future of the next generation.
