NT$38.7 Billion in NWL Assets to Be Nationalized

In February 2018, the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee (IGPASC) under the Cabinet issued an administrative disposition, determining that the National Women’s League (NWL) was a KMT-affiliated organization. Yesterday, the IGPASC issued the second administrative disposition against the NWL, determining that NWL assets totaling NT$38.7 billion (approx. US$1.26 billion) were ill-gotten party assets and demanding that the NWL revert the assets to the nation’s coffers.

The administrative disposition in writing was delivered to the NWL last evening. If the NWL somehow failed to petition for a court injunction against the administrative disposition and get court approval for the petition, the NWL must revert these assets to the nation’s coffers within 30 days of receiving the administrative disposition in writing.

The IGPASC stated that after having received the ill-gotten assets from the NWL, the government would establish a “special fund” to use the money with proper planning.

Yesterday, NWL Chairwoman Joanna Lei (雷倩) stated that the NWL would take all possible measures of judicial redress against the administrative disposition.
