The KMT postponed the adoption of the directions and schedules for its 2020 Presidential primary and was reportedly planning to “draft its standard-bearer based on opinion polls” instead. The KMT would conduct opinion polls before its National Party Congress and draft the one with highest support rating.

In a statement yesterday, Eric Chu (朱立倫), the immediate-past New Taipei City Mayor, now a hopeful for the KMT Presidential primary, responded by saying he had publicly stated that KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) needed more room to deal with the matter. Chu also called on the public to give Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) some time to consider.

Wang Jin-pyng (王金平), a former legislative speaker, now a legislator and another hopeful for the KMT primary, stated that he had no comments on the matter and would respect the party central’s decision.

However, this news story has yet to be confirmed by the KMT.
