Recently, some Mainlanders and foreigners have come to Taiwan to allegedly publicize the program of “one county, two systems” for Taiwan and military reunification. Yesterday, President Tsai Ing-wen instructed agencies handling immigration or border control to fully grasp the purposes of entry of all such figures. Those who intended to visit Taiwan to engage in activities advocating war or intimidating people in Taiwan by publicizing “one county, two systems” or military reunification should, if necessary, be banned from entering Taiwan in order to safeguard national security and social stability, Tsai ordered.
Last week, Li Yi (李毅), a Mainland scholar who once promoted resorting to force to unify Taiwan, who was originally invited to give an address in Taiwan by the National Association for China’s Peaceful Unification, Taiwan (中國和平統一促進會), was forcibly repatriated to Hong Kong by the National Immigration Agency (NIA) under the Interior Ministry (內政部移民署) on the grounds that Li, who used a visitor visa to enter Taiwan, was ineligible to give a talk in Taiwan. However, after leaving Taiwan, Li exposed that he had called at the DPP headquarters in a previous visit and been asked to send word to Mainland agencies handling Taiwan affairs.
On its Facebook page, the New Party announced that it scheduled a forum on April 19th titled “What Should Taiwan Do with Beijing’s Push for Cross-Strait Reunification?,” during which the party would invite Li Yi to reveal, via the Internet, what the DPP had asked him to convey to Beijing.
