Yesterday, at the KMT Central Standing Committee (CSC) regular weekly meeting, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih (吳敦義), in an unprecedented move, issued a Diploma of Honor to Terry Guo, Chairman of Foxconn and a KMT member of 50 years in appreciation of his vital contributions to the party.
During Guo’s remarks, he announced that he decided to enter the KMT presidential primary, and would not accept a draft.
In accordance with the KMT’s rules, those who enter the Presidential primary have to be party members of good standing for a minimum of four months.
Gou reportedly had failed, for some reason, to pay, NT$ 10,000 as dues for a lifelong member at the last time of party membership checkup, thus eliciting questions about whether he could enjoy full party membership rights now.
However, yesterday, Lu Hsueh-chang (呂學樟), together with other 16 members of the KMT CSC, signed a motion proposing amending the procedures for the primary at next Wednesday’s CSC meeting. This proposal aims to grant Guo exemption, allowing him to enjoy full party membership rights in recognition of his vital and extraordinary contributions to the KMT, paving a smooth way for Guo to join the KMT Presidential primary.
