Yu Ying-lung (游盈隆), once a hopeful in the DPP Chairman by-election and Chairman of the Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation (TPOF), a pro-Green survey organization, announced on June 23 on his Facebook page that he bolted the DPP, ending the 24 years and 115 days of his DPP membership. He stated that when “keeping the current status” became the core value of the DPP’s governance, the party thus changed, adding that when the amendment bill to the Plebiscite Act delinking plebiscite elections from nationwide elections was passed, the party thus betrayed its traditional supporters.
To this matter, the DPP expressed regret but respected Yu’s decision. In addition, DPP Secretary-General Lo Wen-jia (羅文嘉) indicated that “it is a pity that the DPP has lost an old friend to continue helping the DPP.”
