Wu Urges Gou Not to Bolt KMT/ Gou: I Only Chase Ideals Now

July 19, 2019

After losing in the KMT 2020 Presidential primary, Terry Gou (郭台銘), of Foxconn, broke his silence yesterday by saying on his Facebook page that he had gone abroad to cool down and collect himself and was now in Japan. Gou went on to say that he was there in an attempt to get a further understanding of Japan’s preschool childcare policy and to meet with Chairman of the Taiwan-Japan Exchange Association for an exchange of views over the substantive ties between Taiwan and Japan in the future and, most importantly, over Taiwan’s challenges and opportunities as a result of Japan-South Korea competition. Gou also mentioned that he had scheduled meetings with some important figures in Japan’s semiconductor industry.

Gou stated that “now, I only chase after ideals rather than fame or wealth,” causing divergent interpretations over whether Gou might bolt the KMT to run in the 2020 Presidential race independently.

Yesterday, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) urged Gou in public not to bolt the party as Gou not only was a KMT comrade who was highly respected by his fellow members but also made many contributions to the nation.
