In April this year after Wong Chi-huey (翁啟惠), a former president of the Academia Sinica, was impeached by the Control Yuan, the top watchdog body in the ROC, owing to the OBI Pharma case, the Commission on Disciplinary Sanctions of Public Functionaries reprimanded Wong for violating the provisions of the Public Functionary Service Act on the grounds that during his term as Academia Sinica president between 2006 and 2016, Wong had held shares of OBI Pharma stock under his daughter’s name without declaring the assets to the Control Yuan as required by law, and that Wong had failed to reveal the information about possible conflicts of interest with OBI Pharma. Wong then filed a petition to the Commission for a new trial over his impeachment case.

Yesterday, the Commission rejected Wong’s new trial petition on the grounds that in 2013, Wong had declared in the US an income as a result of selling his shares of OBI Pharma stock, obviously meaning that Wong was the owner of the shares.
