It is still a question whether Terry Gou (郭台銘), founder of Foxconn, Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), Taipei City Mayor, and Wang Jin-pyng (王金平), a former Legislative Speaker, would form a coalition, and the public is still in the dark as to whether Gou would bolt the KMT to run in the 2020 Presidential race. In addition, Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), Kaohsiung City Mayor, and also the KMT’s official presidential candidate, has been frequently smeared recently. Hong Kong’s recent large-scale demonstrations against the “amendment bill to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance,” have intensified. All these factors may impact the upcoming presidential race.

The TVBS Polling Center has released the results of its latest opinion poll on the 2020 Presidential race, showing that in a Blue-Green duel, among respondents planning to vote, Tsai has received a 47% support rating, while Han 42%. This is the first time for Tsai to lead Han in ratings after the two political parties confirmed the nomination of their standard bearers. 11% of the respondents declined to answer or had no opinion.

If Ko, Chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party, fielded Terry Gou in the Presidential race to form a three-way race, Tsai’s support rating has come in at 33%, ranking No. 1, followed by Han’s 31% and Gou’s 29%.
