Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱), the immediate-past KMT Chairwoman, not long ago threw her hat into the ring in the 2020 legislative race in the sixth electoral district of Tainan City. However, as Hung advocated “one China, one interpretation,” local figures expressed concerns that Hung might drag the KMT down in the campaign. In a KMT Central Standing Committee meeting last week, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) even stated that those who insisted on “one China, one interpretation” were not even qualified to be KMT members.

In an exclusive radio interview yesterday, Hung softened her posture, saying that if the party central regarded “one China, one interpretation” as a forbidden “heresy,” she would no longer talk about it to keep in line with the party central’s stance.
