The unemployment rates of the whole nation and those aged 20 to 24 increased to 3.82% and 12.7%, respectively, both record-high since last September, mainly owing to recent college graduates entering the job market, according to the statistics released by Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics under the Cabinet.
Ho Chi-Sheng (何啟聖), Vice President of Taipei-based 1111 Man Power Bank, indicated that the unemployment rate of those aged 20 to 24 had hovered around three times higher than the country’s average for a long time. It showed the failure of the government’s attempt to solve problems of young people’s low remuneration or their difficulty in finding a job by raising the country’s minimum monthly/hourly wages, Ho argued.
