Su Chi (蘇起), a former secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC), and the person who minted the term “1992 Consensus”, currently serves on the campaign plank advisory team for KMT presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜). In a press conference for Han’s White Paper on cross-Strait relations, Su Chi indicated that the “1992 Consensus/one China, respective interpretations” was the true “1992 Consensus.”  Su explained that the “one China, respective interpretations” was proposed by former President Lee Teng-hui (李登輝), and evolved into the “1992 Consensus,” which the United States regarded as the best policy to resolve the tensions between Taiwan and the Mainland. Su went on to state that “however, many toxic additives were later put in this bowl of hot soup by the DPP and Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文),” and that in the end, the “one country, two systems” formulation was also added. As a result, the hot soup became toxic soup, and was peddled to the people in Taiwan.

Su indicated that many signs showed that Mainland people used to be friendly toward Taiwan, but now about 80% to 90% of them advocated reunifying Taiwan by force. He continued to state that many people in Taiwan wrongly anticipated that the US would help Taiwan fight against the powerful Mainland, and that owing to this incorrect anticipation along with cross-Strait military power imbalance and current political relations, he was very concerned that if Tsai won in her re-election bid in January 2020, Taiwan would face volcanic eruptions.
