On October 15 (Pacific Time), former premier Lai Ching-te (賴清德) will deliver a speech at a pep rally in northern California on behalf of the DPP and President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文). Lai is touring the US to canvass votes among overseas DPP supporters, and this is the first time after the DPP primary that Lai openly stumps for Tsai.

Lee Tuey-chih (李退之), spokesman for Lai’s mobile office, indicated that the speech in the US was Lai’s first public address after the DPP primary, which had a symbolic meaning. Lee also stated that Lai’s canvassing votes overseas for the DPP and Tsai’s re-election bid itself represented three facets, i.e., the DPP’s goals, Lai’s relationships with the DPP and President Tsai, and his role in the 2020 presidential and legislative elections.
