Controversies over the Taipei Dome construction had never stopped. Yesterday, at the urban planning review committee under Taipei City Hall, the Taipei Dome project was approved amid controversy, moving one step further toward the comprehensive resumption of construction. Yang Shun-chin (楊舜欽), spokesman of the Farglory Group, general contractor for the project, indicated that after receiving the approval of the urban planning review committee, the project would need to be submitted to the environmental assessment committee under Taipei City Hall and Taiwan Architecture & Building Center (TABC) for review, and the building licenses for the project would require alternations, adding that the Farglory Group would strive for the comprehensive resumption of the construction by the end of 2019.
In addition, Taipei City Hall revealed that the Major League Baseball (MLB) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) called at City Hall, hoping that the 2021 World Baseball Classic (WBC) could be held in March at the Taipei Dome. However, Yang indicated that once the comprehensive resumption of construction on the Taipei Dome began, the estimated construction period would be around one year and ten months, adding that based on the current scheduled construction period, Taipei City definitely could not host the WBC at the Taipei Dome.
