Han Criticizes DPP Stance on National Identity as “Back Door Listing”

Lai Ching-te (賴清德), the immediate-past Premier, once proclaimed himself as a pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence, and he now indicated that he followed the Resolution on Taiwan’s Future adopted by the DPP, claiming that Taiwan was a sovereign state, the designation of which was the Republic of China (ROC) and both Taiwan and China were separate, not one subordinated to the other. He added that only the 23 million people in Taiwan could decide Taiwan’s future.
As Lai stated that Taiwan was a sovereign state, the designation of which was the ROC, Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), the KMT’s presidential candidate, indicated that Lai’s remarks were similar to the stock-market jargon of “back door listing,” because Lai didn’t realize that the true ROC was the one established in 1912 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen (孫中山), adding that both Lai and Tsai should make themselves clear to the public about their national identity; otherwise, the two were just swindling the public again.
