Following her re-election win in the 2020 presidential race, President Tsai Ing-wen called on the Mainland to interact on the basis of “peace, parity, democracy, and dialogue.” In response yesterday, Ma Xiaoguang (馬曉光), spokesman of the Mainland’s Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO，國台辦), under the State Council, claimed that “Taiwan’s future should be jointly decided by all Chinese people.”
Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) counterattacked by stressing that “Taiwan’s future will be decided by people on Taiwan.”
