Concerning whether the phase one trade agreement signed between the US and the Mainland and the upcoming phase two negotiations would impact the US policies toward Taiwan, former AIT chairman Richard Bush indicated on January 16 that the phase one trade agreement did not include technological regulations, adding that however, if the Trump administration took extremely tough measures regarding technological regulations, out of concerns about ties between Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., it might impact the core of Taiwan’s politics and economy.
