Taiwan’s first fatal case of COVID-19, a 61-year-old “gypsy cab” driver, has caused infections among his family members, with his mother, brother, and the husband of his niece contracting COVID-19. The infections may even spread further to these confirmed patients’ colleagues.
Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), Minister of Health and Welfare, also the director of the Central Epidemic Command Center, made public that the fatal case’s son tested negative for COVID-19, adding that 68 out of 71, who had had contacted the husband of the driver’s niece at work, also tested negative, while the screening results of the other 3 had yet to come out. Chen went on to say that after assessment, the Commend Center opined that the epidemic had yet to spread, so “communities are still safe.”
With regard to the home-coming Taiwan businessman doing business in Zhejiang on the Mainland, who has been targeted as the source of the driver’s infection, the Command Center stated that as no coronavirus had been found in his blood, further antibody screening would be conducted.
