Zhong Nanshan (鍾南山), a member of the Mainland’s Chinese Academy of Engineering, has predicted that the COVID-19 epidemic will reach its peak in mid- to late February, adding that the epidemic on the Mainland will not slow down until April.
Zhong has indicated that Wuhan is the key to curb the epidemic, since 80% of COVID-19 patients are in Wuhan, adding that person-to-person transmission has not stopped there. He believes that Wuhan needs to tackle two problems: to separate sick people from the healthy, and to separate COVID-19 patients from influenza patients.
Zhong has emphasized that the conditions of 85% of COVID-19 patients will improve, if given good life support and treatment conditions. He has candidly said that treating critically or seriously ill COVID-19 patients is currently more difficult than treating SARS, adding that plasma therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and the antimalarial drug Chloroquine Phosphate are efficacious in treating COVID-19.
