In a press conference yesterday, the KMT legislative caucus revealed that Chang Chung-jie (張仲傑), a nephew of Secretary-General to the President Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全), also president of the state-controlled Tang Eng Iron Works, had undergone investigation by the Economics Ministry for four cases, in which Chang’s family members had won contracts to produce uniforms and to organize incentive tours for Tang Eng’s employees, without any recusal because of conflict of interests.
The KMT caucus made public the official communication concerning the Economics Ministry’s internal investigation results, showing that after investigation, the Tang Eng cases indeed involved negligence and omissions. The KMT caucus went on to point out that however, instead of imposing penalties on the company, the Ministry merely demanded that Tang Eng reexamine its procedures and make improvements. The official communication was even classified as confidential, the KMT caucus noted.
The KMT caucus planned to file criminal charges with prosecutorial and investigative agencies against Chang for perfidy and malfeasance, demanding at the same time that the Economics Ministry hold Chang accountable.
