It has been exposed that President Tsai Ing-wen “reprimanded” Grand Justice Lu Tai-lang (呂太郎) at the Presidential residence. With regard to this, former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) yesterday said, “it is absolutely impermissible.” The KMT also blasted Tsai that her power had been expanding without boundaries, demanding that Tsai apologize and Lu resign.
Lin Wei-chou (林為洲), KMT legislative party whip, states that after the nomination of grand justices is confirmed by the LY, they cannot have any interactions with the President [except for public social or ceremonial functions]. “Even US President Trump is not allowed to call a Supreme Court justice to the White House,” he adds.
Lin indicates that if a grand justice could be called to the Presidential residence, what should judges do if the President asks them for case information? He further says that the incident has become like the Japanese classic film “Rashomon”, adding that Lu should make public the content of his dialogue with Tsai that day.
