The number of furloughed employees has declined for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted. The number of establishments implementing furloughs has decreased by 488 from a week earlier to 952. Currently, 25,826 employees are on furlough, a fall of 5,990, among whom nearly 3,000 are in the hotel and restaurant sectors as well as the wholesale and retail sectors. However, the manufacturing industry still has the most furloughs owing to the decline in export orders.
According to an official from the Ministry of Labor, as domestic consumption has made a comeback, it is most likely that the domestic services sector has passed its peak of furloughs.
