July 10, 2020

On July 8, the KMT caucus revealed the malfeasance of Chang Chung-jie (張仲傑), president of the state-controlled Tang Eng Iron Works, and also a nephew of Secretary-General to the President Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全), in Tang Eng’s four procurement cases. In addition, the KMT caucus criticized the Economics Ministry for “systematically shielding” Chang by not only classifying the official communication of its internal investigation on the Chang case as “confidential,” but also imposing no penalties on him even though the four cases indeed involved negligence and omissions.

Following the KMT caucus’ exposure, Chang immediately tendered his resignation as Tang Eng president, and Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) confirmed yesterday that she had approved Chang’s resignation.

Yesterday, Lin Wei-chou (林為洲), KMT legislative party whip, stated that the KMT caucus would not only complain to the Control Yuan but also file criminal charges with prosecutors against Chang and Wu Fong-sheng (吳豐盛), acting chairman of Tang Eng, for perfidy and malfeasance today.
