 Taipei Universiade Will Let the World Witness Taiwan's Love

The Taipei Universiade torch was lit on June 20th in Turin, Italy, the birthplace of the Universiades, and was relayed to Taiwan through Europe and the Asian Continent. On July 7, it climbed to Mt. Jade, 3,952 meters above sea level, the highest summit in East Asia, and continued its relay inside Taiwan. The relay will take the torch from the north to central Taiwan, the south and out-lying islands, forming the route in the shape of the English word "love," which will be the essence of the Universiade slated for August 19. As the host of this important athletic meet, we hope we will transmit love to the entire world through the Taipei Universiade.

The 12-day event is Taiwan's "showtime," being the moment Taiwan is under the limelight on the world stage to exhibit all it can offer. In order to win the sponsorship of the “Petite Olmpics,” Taiwan spent more than a decade through a relay of cooperation of two mayors, Blue and Green. Finally, it defeated Brazil and won the 2017 sponsorship. The organizing authorities have done their best and we believe that they have made all necessary preparations. However, whether they can let Taiwan pride itself, the crux is whether the people understand that the Universiade is Taiwan's "showtime" and worthy of devotion by all people. This grandiose event is exactly like the dormant stage of a 17-year cicada. Now that it has grown into a full insect, how could it forsake the stage of singing!

The Universiade is an athletic meet second only to the Olympics. We must be fully-prepared in the planning of crisis management. The entire population of 23 million people in Taiwan should all be enthusiastic, gracious hosts, and let the athletes and related personnel from all corners of the world witness Taiwan's warmth and love.
