Increasing Military Procurements Can’t Revert Military Imbalance in the Taiwan Strait

Translation of an Excerpt
For years, the DPP government, when facing a United States calling on our government to strengthen our defense capabilities, has always responded by seeking to augment increase military purchases, not knowing that the so-called military imbalance in the Taiwan Strait is not only a question of "quantity," but "quality" is precisely Taiwan’s right path to effective deterrents, while maintaining what we already have and jointly planning for cross-Strait peace; it is also the crux to satisfy the interests of all concerned.
The slide-down in the quality of ROC military strength is the major real reason that has caused the military imbalance in the Taiwan Strait. Green camp eggheads have piled up embellished rhetoric, creating a new narrative on defense and the military, turning military strategy that requires rigid logic into election campaign discourse. Our military build-up and combat readiness are based on the logical framework of thinking, i.e., "fighting, equipment, organization, and training." However, since the introduction of "logical deterrent” up to now, not only is the definition unclear, but the military has never explained what kind of military strength would be developed based on this concept, what kind of combat systems it plans to acquire, what kind of troop organization it plans to erect, or how it would integrate the education system and training regiment of the armed forces, in order to fully implement this military strategy.
If we want to avoid a military imbalance in the Taiwan Strait, we must first treat the armed forces with good faith, respect the founding history of the armed forces, and not use the Whampoa Military Academy anthem as an issue for political maneuvering. The officers and men maintaining the security in the Taiwan Strait are the armed forces of the Republic of China; young people in the Taiwan independence movement only know how to verbally provoke Beijing while each evading military service. Do they truly love Taiwan?
