Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je indicated a couple of days ago, "leaving reunification and independence aside, the Blue and Green are practically no different, but the KMT is better in dinner table etiquette"; this statement was indirectly ridiculing the DPP’s “bad table manners.” Premier Su Tseng-chang responded by indicating that the DPP government was doing its best in safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty, allowing Taiwan to have a place of independence and autonomy in the international community, not permitting anyone to ridicule or take cheap shots at Taiwan. Ko Wen-je again shot back, saying that "the masses have eyes" and "absolute power corrupts absolutely."

According to Su Tseng-chang's logic, he seems to be saying that many in the DPP sacrificed their personal freedom, breaking the KMT's authoritarian rule in order to allow Taiwan to march toward democracy, freedom, and opening up, thus, whatever it did, the DPP should not be ridiculed. The mentality behind Su Tseng-chang's logic: This is the world fought and achieved by the DPP, thus “L'État, c'est moi.” Su Tseng-chang’s response reflects the crux that the DPP has never been afraid of its bad table manners, only fearing eating too slowly and not enough: in its thinking, it needs only shift the focus, scrambling to join the bandwagon of “the sense of losing one’s country”, directing all issues of maladministration to the battleground of anti-China. Hoisting the shingle of "Loving Taiwan, Defending Sovereignty", the DPP considers any questioning toward national governance, if not fake news, then it is suspect of being a "CCP agent". “Anti-China” has become the fig leaf for the DPP government’s maladministration and demoralization; it not only hides its ugly table manners, but also covers up the messy dinner table after eating.

Speaking bluntly, for the Tsai government’s cross-Strait and diplomatic operations, one is anti-China and hate China, the second is relying on the US to bicker with China, the third is selling “a sense of losing one’s country”, and finally drumming up votes. The focus of the Tsai government’s thinking is, if utilizing the escalating cross-Strait tensions, shifting questions about maladministration, suppressing internal dissent and, in a further step, turning the cross-Strait crisis and diplomatic red ink into Tsai Ing-wen’s dividends of votes, while “the sense of losing one’s country” is precisely the enzyme powder and catalyst.
