Enacting a Red Agent Law Means to Initiate a Bible for Dictatorship

United Daily News Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

November 8, 2019

 Translation of an Excerpt

The DPP suddenly plays its hand, breaking the tacit agreement between the ruling and opposition parties not to take up the bill titled “Agents for the CCP Act" during this regular legislative session, choosing to refer it to the committee for review two months before the general elections, thus eliciting wide speculations. Despite the fact that it is not easy to integrate the 16 relevant amendment bills, the DPP enjoys a numerical superiority in the Legislative Yuan, thus it will be extremely easy for the integrated "agents" bill to be rammed through or deliberately igniting a battle to build up momentum.

The "CCP Agent" bill has been dubbed by Green legislators as "Red Agents" bill; this bill is nothing but duplicating White Terror so that the powers-that-be could return to authoritarian rule.

It may be said that the day the "Red Agents" bill is passed, Taiwan's democracy will be proclaimed under "ICU treatment", with no more worries about marching towards a Green dictatorship.

In early July, the revisions of "five laws related to National Security" were all completed; the "five National Security laws" may have a flimsy justification to be called links for the erection of a "National Security net"; the "CCP Agents" bill, nevertheless is nearly a suppressive, even a code to annihilate forces of opposition, and is a bible to dictatorship, trump up charges, eradicate dissidents, and incite informants.

The "Red Agents" bill is without question the “imperial robe” for the DPP to start a new authoritarian rule; at this time, it suddenly was anxious to refer it to committee probably because it has detected some inklings that the DPP could not enjoy a parliamentary majority after the general elections, thus it must hurry up so as to avoid failing to close the gap. Nevertheless, its promulgation and implementation will also proclaim democracy’s terminal condition. The DPP itself must think clearly: does it want to be a gravedigger for democracy?
