Han Fans Are Awaiting the Signal of "Night Attack"

China Times Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

 Translation of an Excerpt

After Han Kuo-yu urged supporters to hide their voting preferences, reports of some opinion polls from unknown origins have verily disappeared from the media; authoritative institutions’ survey data have also obviously deviated from the scope of common sense. The latest United Daily News polls show that only 29% of people believe that Han has truly lagged far behind, and that among supporters of the Tsai-Lai ticket, only 45% believe that the Green camp leads by a big margin. Han Kuo-yu’s policy of closing down opinion polls has proven effective.

The Han Kuo-yu camp suspects that opinion polls have become a tool for the Green camp to manipulate electoral prospects. Most Green camp pep rallies are attended by a sprinkling of crowds, even in the case of larger crowds and caravans of tour buses, traces of mobilization are often apparent. Moreover, no matter the attendance is small or big, the faces of most participants are lukewarm with no enthusiasm. In contrast to the Green camp’s icy cold events, from Han Kuo-yu’s activities, we can clearly see hordes of spontaneous, enthusiastic supporters, with not even the slightest looks of electoral prospects lagging behind.

The distance between opinion polls and people’s hearts has become a point of contention in this electoral campaign. Han Kuo-yu, who plays his cards with unorthodox gambits, has launched a political experiment hitherto unseen in the electoral history of Taiwan, jettisoning opinion polls that have guided Taiwan’s electoral prospects for 20 years, and openly urging supporters to reject pollsters, even telling on the phone "I support Tsai Ing-wen only". His strategy is to appeal to the direction of people's hearts, competing for votes with opponents, and not competing to answer phone calls.

Opinion polls can be fake, but people's hearts cannot. Tsai Ing-wen abuses power to manipulate public media outlets, using policies as resources to bribe commercial media outlets, creating a comfortable protective net of media, nestling in the stratosphere to hide from maladministration. Han Kuo-yu, nevertheless, strives to brush aside the illusions of opinion polls, allowing the truth of the Tsai government’s incompetence in governance to expose itself, reigniting the complex that Taiwan society hates the DPP. The Han fans are awaiting Han Kuo-yu to issue the password in the last 4 sentences of "Night Attack": "Awaiting only that signal to light up, awaiting only that signal to sound, then we will immediately launch a lightning strike and achieve a brilliant victory".
