Mainland China celebrated the 70th anniversary of the PRC on October 1st, 2019, during which President Xi Jinping indicated in a ceremony that China would push for cross-Strait peaceful development, unifying Chinese people at home and abroad to continue striving for national unification, adding that China would still keep Hong Kong and Macau in long-term prosperity and stability under “one China, two systems.”

Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), ROC Premier, indicated that the ROC was an independent and sovereign country, and people in Taiwan would never accept the “one China, two systems” proposed by Mainland China.

Chen Ming-tong (陳明通), Minister of the ROC’s Mainland Affairs Office (MAC), said that the MAC had issued a statement strongly declaring that “one China, two systems” would never be a solution to handle cross-Strait relations, adding that the MAC would like to ask Mainland China to halt any moves that would undermine cross-Strait relations.

The KMT also indicated that the KMT would resolutely reject “one China, two systems” and oppose Taiwan independence, advocating that the KMT would push for cross-Strait exchanges on the basis of “one China, respective interpretations under the 1992 Consensus.”
