This week, during the extraordinary legislative session, the Legislative Yuan (LY) is slated to deal with the resolutions on renaming China Airlines (CAL) and the designation on ROC passports. Chung Chia-pin (鍾佳濱), DPP legislative caucus whip, stated that if no consensus was reached during the caucus-to-caucus consultations, the resolutions would be taken up by the plenary session for a vote.

Lin Wei-chou (林為洲), KMT legislative party whip, stated that the resolutions on renaming CAL and the country’s designation on passports were not bills of law, but mere statements urging executive agencies to implement the resolutions in question, so there would be no need for them to undergo three readings in the LY, and the resolutions, even if passed, would not be mandatory.

Lin went on to point out that the KMT was noncommittal on renaming CAL and designation on ROC passports, adding that however, the KMT caucus would consider introducing an amendment to the resolutions during the caucus-to-caucus consultations in order to expose the DPP’s mentality of putting on a show and highlight the fact that even if the resolutions were passed, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Foreign Ministry would not be obliged to implement them. Lin stressed that the KMT caucus would never keep the DPP caucus company in its show.
