The government has lifted the entry ban on students from 19 countries or areas at low-to-moderate risk to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing them to return to Taiwan for their studies. However, approximately 7,500 Mainland students are still banned from entering Taiwan.

Yesterday, National Taiwan University (NTU) issued a statement in a rare move, pointing out that in the past two weeks, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases on the Mainland was lower than that in Japan, Singapore and Australia, which were classified by us as “countries at low-to-moderate risk to the disease.” NTU went on to say that from the perspectives of pandemic prevention and risks of contracting the disease, there was no necessity to ban the entry of Mainland students, stressing that the entry ban on Mainland students should be lifted “sooner rather than later.”
