Yesterday, over two million people in Taiwan won “Arts FUN Go” vouchers, valued at NT$600 (approx. US$20) apiece. They could be used to pay for exhibition admissions, movie tickets, and books. However, so many winners in the drawing of lots logged into the “Arts FUN Go” App yesterday afternoon that the system crashed. Many winners waited long periods of time, but were unable to claim their vouchers. The Ministry of Culture guaranteed that all vouchers would be issued by noon today.
On the other hand, the Council of Agriculture under the Cabinet issued five million vouchers valued at NT$250 (approx. US$8.5) apiece. They could be used to pay at authorized farms or livestock ranches. As a result, business at many farmers’ associations surged because of increased sales of farm products. The aim of the vouchers was to encourage farm tours, but most people spent the vouchers on food products at farmers’ associations.
