 Ko: It’s Better for People on 2 Sides of Strait to Be Like Family than Foes

Yesterday, the Taipei-Shanghai City Forum, dubbed the “Twin-Cities Forum,” was held via video conference owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his remarks, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) stated that his stance on cross-Strait ties remained unchanged, i.e., he always took a pragmatic attitude in dealing with cross-Strait affairs. As his past narrative of “the people on the two sides of the Strait are like family” elicited criticisms, Ko skillfully changed his narrative at yesterday’s Forum by saying that “Cross-Strait exchanges are better than their suspensions, cooperation is better than confrontation, and it’s better for the people on the two sides of the Strait to be like family than like foes.”
