Hong Kong media outlets confirmed by citing Hong Kong’s Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau that two staffers of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (HKETCO) in Taiwan returned to Hong Kong as the Taiwan authorities had refused to renew their visas.
Yesterday, the Taipei-based Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), under the Cabinet, stated that in consideration of the principle of equality and reciprocity, “we must take some actions in order to safeguard the dignity of our state.”
Lu Chang-shui (盧長水), appointed as the representative of TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) in Hong Kong in 2018, has never been able to assume office in Hong Kong for over two years, as the Hong Kong authorities have refused to issue a work visa to him, while Kao Ming-tsun (高銘村), acting representative of TECO in Hong Kong, has been forced to leave Hong Kong after refusing to sign a voucher on the “one China principle.”
