LY Passes Resolutions on Modifying Name of CAL & Designation on ROC Passport

July 23, 2020
Yesterday, the LY’s extraordinary session passed two resolutions, one on modifying name of China Airlines (CAL) and the other on modifying the designation on ROC passports. The government agencies of the executive branch are required to study and plan on making “Taiwan” more identifiable on passports. With regard to renaming CAL, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications should propose feasible phased schemes, starting from the design of the aircraft’s exterior, which does not involve contract renegotiations or freedoms of the air.
The KMT caucus stated that government agencies had already had the authority to deal with the matter without resolutions by the LY, adding that apparently, the DPP was simply putting on a show for its political interests, thus the KMT refused to be at the scene and boycotted the vote.
