July 23, 2020
Starting June 17th, the Central Epidemic Command Center gradually lifted the entry ban on students from 19 countries or areas. On Monday July 20th, National Taiwan University indicated that the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases in Mainland China was lower than in Japan and Singapore these past two weeks, thus it was unnecessary to continue the entry ban on Mainland students. Yesterday, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that starting July 23rd, students of the 2020 graduating class from all countries could apply for entry to Taiwan.
The MOE will evaluate how the quarantine goes in the next two to three weeks, and further consider whether to allow students of all classes, including new students, from all countries to enter Taiwan.
Universities in Taiwan are glad to hear the news, and urge students from foreign countries to return to Taiwan for quarantine as soon as possible, lest there should be a shortfull of quarantine rooms in August and September.
