The KMT legislative caucus convoked a caucus assembly meeting yesterday, aiming to galvanize a consensus on the party’s stance on the abolishment of the Control Yuan and the Examination Yuan. It is reported that many legislators in the meeting expressed their concerns about the abolishment of the Control Yuan and the Examination Yuan. In addition, it has also been reported that KMT Chairman Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), a legislator in his own right who attended the meeting, expressed the party central’s opinion by indicating that the problem of the Control Yuan and the Examination Yuan might not be caused by the constitutional organs themselves, but by human factors, adding that raising the bar for confirmation over nominations for the two Yuan might be an option. Moreover, Chiang even indicated that before a consensus was formed within the party, the caucus should not rush into policy stances.

Chiang’s remarks were interpreted by KMT legislators as an implication that the party central opposed abolishing the Control Yuan and the Examination Yuan. It has been reported that party whip Lin Wei-chou (林為洲) thought that Chiang’s remarks seemed to put a brake on the matter, so Lin declared that he would resign as party whip to demonstrate his resolve to abolish the two Yuan.
