Yesterday, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) announced that the 2021 World News Media Congress would be held in Taipei from June 23rd to 25th, 2021. It is estimated that over 1,000 media executives from over 120 countries will attend the events in Taiwan.
The 2020 Congress, slated to be held in Spain this coming September, was called off owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. WAN-IFRA CEO stated that the 2021 Congress in Taipei would be an occasion for professionals in the news industry to reexamine post-pandemic press freedom and media development.
After two years of efforts, the Taipei-based United Daily News (UDN) Group is able to co-host the Congress. UDN Chairman Duncan Wang (王文杉) said that he looked forward to seeing fellow members of the industry hold dialogues and reflect on the future of journalism in the free, democratic, and hospitable Taiwan in 2021.
