The Ministry of Education (MOE) yesterday announced the review results of the 2020 Yushan Scholar Program. A total of 43 scholars have passed muster, 15 of whom are foreign nationals.

The selected scholars will be assigned to twelve universities, including National Taiwan University. A scholar will receive an additional annual salary of NT$3 to 5 million (approx. US$100,000 to 170,000). However, only 98 applications were submitted this year, the lowest ever since the program was established.

The MOE indicates that the purpose of the program is to assist institutions of higher learning in recruiting international talents. A British scholar, currently teaching engineering at Oxford University, has confirmed that he is going to teach at National Taiwan University.
