Responding to the differing voices within the KMT on the abolishment of the Control Yuan and the Examination Yuan through Constitutional reforms, KMT Chairman Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) yesterday stated that “the KMT is not a party ruled by just one voice; moreover, it should not be mired in a predicament of defying integration.”

Chiang said that “the spirit of the independent control and examination powers ought not to be abandoned, since a healthy democracy must have checks and balances on powers.” He indicated that he had already asked the KMT caucus and think tank to propose amendment bills to the Constitution aiming at resurrecting the Legislative confirmation power over the Premier’s nomination and making “State of Nation” reports by the President to the LY a standard practice. He also expressed his support for KMT legislators to introduce various recommendations for Constitutional reform so as to enable more diverse discussions.
